1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy describes how Nunn Ventures, LLC ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, discloses, and safeguards information when you access or use nunn.ai (the "Service"), an educational AI Teaching Assistant created by Professor G. Alexander Nunn for students in his Evidence and Advanced Evidence courses at Texas A&M University School of Law and other authorized evidence scholars.

By accessing or using the Service, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

2. Information We Collect

Because nunn.ai is designed as a free, privacy-conscious educational resource for law students, we minimize data collection and do not require individual user account registration or payment information:

  • Course Access Session Data: When you unlock the Service using the course access password, we set a cryptographically signed session cookie (and, if you select "Remember me on this device," a persistent signed cookie tai_remember lasting up to 120 days) solely to remember that your browser is authorized to access the Service.
  • Queries and Conversation Context: We process the evidence law questions you submit, the multi-turn conversation history maintained during your active session, and the AI-generated responses provided to you.
  • Uploaded Files: If you upload a document (such as a PDF, Word document, or text file containing a practice problem or outline excerpt), we extract the text from the file to include as context for your query.
  • Technical and Security Logs: Like standard web applications, our hosting infrastructure logs basic technical metadata—including IP address, browser User-Agent, referring URL, timestamps, and request performance metrics—to maintain security, prevent abuse, and ensure reliable operation.

3. How We Use Information

We use the information described above solely to:

  • Provide and Operate the Service: Authenticate course access, retrieve relevant materials from Professor Nunn's course knowledge base (lecture slides, Socratic notes, handouts, and past exam style guides), and generate instructional responses.
  • Improve Pedagogical Quality: Analyze aggregate usage patterns and technical performance to refine course retrieval accuracy and system reliability.
  • Maintain Security and Prevent Abuse: Monitor for unauthorized access, automated scraping, or service disruption.
  • Comply with Legal Obligations: Enforce our Terms of Service and comply with applicable law.

4. Third-Party Service Providers and AI Processing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information, and we do not use advertising or behavioral tracking cookies. We share limited data only with the infrastructure providers necessary to run the Service:

  • AI Model Inference (OpenRouter / Google Gemini): To generate instructional responses, your query, active conversation history, and retrieved course materials are transmitted via encrypted API calls to OpenRouter (openrouter.ai), which routes requests to Google's Gemini frontier models.
  • Cloud Hosting Infrastructure (Google Cloud Platform): The Service is hosted on Google Cloud Run (us-central1), which processes incoming web requests and standard operational logs.
  • Analytics: Basic, aggregated site traffic metrics may be collected via Google Analytics to understand overall visitor volume.
  • Legal and Safety Disclosures: We may disclose information if required to do so by law or in the good-faith belief that such action is necessary to protect the rights, safety, or property of Nunn Ventures, LLC, our students, or the public.

5. Data Storage and Retention

  • No Individual Student Profiles: We do not link queries to student names, university IDs, or email addresses.
  • Session Context: Multi-turn conversation history is stored in your browser's local/session state and transmitted with follow-up turns during your active session. You may clear your conversation or lock your session at any time.
  • Uploaded Documents: Text extracted from uploaded files is used ephemerally to answer your active query and is not permanently archived in a public database.
  • Server Logs: Standard operational and security logs are retained on Google Cloud Platform for a limited period necessary for troubleshooting and security monitoring.

6. Your Choices and Rights

  • Clearing Sessions and Cookies: You may lock your session at any time by clicking Lock in the site navigation or visiting /lock, which immediately clears your authentication session and deletes the tai_remember cookie. You may also clear cookies and local storage through your browser settings.
  • Do Not Upload Sensitive Personal Data: Because queries are processed by third-party AI inference APIs, please do not submit confidential client information, personally identifiable information (PII), or sensitive personal data in your prompts or file uploads.
  • Inquiries and Deletion Requests: If you have questions about your data or wish to request deletion of specific identifiable correspondence, please contact us at alex@nunn.ai.

7. Children's Privacy

The Service is designed for law school students and legal scholars and is not directed to individuals under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18.

8. International Users

The Service is operated from the United States (Google Cloud Platform us-central1). If you access the Service from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States.
